Harlesiel is located directly on the Wadden Sea, where the Harle flows into the North Sea. Between blooming salt marshes and the harbor lies the beach, from which on clear days you can see as far as the islands of Wangerooge and Spiekeroog, watch breathtaking sunsets and observe the tides. The North Sea resort of Carolinensiel-Harlesiel has 3 harbors: small sailors and flat-bottomed ships dock at the historic museum harbor. Motorboats and sailing yachts moor at the marina and the ferry to Wangerooge docks at the outer harbor. Harlesiel is the ideal starting point for numerous excursions to the islands or East Frisia.
At the Wattwanderzentrum Ostfriesland you can book various mudflat hiking tours. Entertaining national park guides show you the diverse flora and fauna of the Wadden Sea in tours lasting one to several hours. You can expect a hands-on Wadden Sea experience with mussels, crabs and lugworms. The tours are suitable for young and old, but require wading shoes or rubber boots and weather-appropriate clothing.
The heated seawater outdoor pool in Harlesiel offers a swimmer's and toddler's pool. A 1-meter and a 3-meter diving board are available for courageous jumps. The adjacent sandy beach and the wonderful dike meadows offer space for sunbathing. Free entrance with guest card.
From Harlesiel you can make day trips to the North Sea island of Wangerooge by boat or island plane. There in the morning and back to the mainland in the evening. This feels like a long weekend. Because on the North Sea island of Wangerooge, you decelerate twice as fast as on the mainland.
Only about 10km from Harlesiel, you'll find the domestic animal park with Poitou donkeys, woolly pigs or goats. Kids can get very close to the animals on a petting meadow and information boards provide information about animal species or country of origin.
Child-free time for parents is promised by the Pony House at the North Sea. Kids from the age of 2 can get a taste of "pony air" as a (half-)day child and can look after the ponies, learn to ride or take part in the leisure program.
At the Nordsee Surf School you can learn windsurfing, kitesurfing, standup paddling and rent the appropriate equipment. With a taster course the first steps with the kite or surfboard are guaranteed to succeed.
The sailing school Harlesail offers sailing trips to the mud flats, the seal banks or to the islands of Wangerooge or Spiekeroog. The team around Detlef Hinz also offers sailing courses, from a taster course of several hours on the Harle to a full sailing course with a sailing license.
The island pilots show you the Wadden Sea from above and offer day flights to Wangerooge or Helgoland. Children from the age of 12 can take off with the small propeller machines and view the vastness of the North Sea.
If it's neither swimming nor hiking weather, there are plenty of bad weather options in Harlesiel.
The Cliner Quelle offers the full wellness program. How about sweating in the sauna area followed by refreshment in the brine and adventure pool? Those who prefer to sweat in the gym or treat themselves to a little makeover in the cosmetic center will also get their money's worth at the Cliner Quelle.
On the tour through the Frisian Jever Brewery you will not only learn exciting facts about the production of a cool blond beer, but also exciting background knowledge for the next small talk at the regulars' table. A tour of the historic brewery museum shows how beer was brewed hundreds of years ago.
In the National Park House in the listed "Alte Pastorei", a fresh exhibition with hands-on activities, interactive elements and an aquarium with 360° view invites you to get to know the Wadden Sea with its inhabitants and the natural history of the coastal region.
In the interactive hands-on exhibition, visitors are introduced to the secrets of scientific phenomena in a playful way. Highlights are the interactive energy game, the energy tower with viewing platform and a 360-degree projection in the exhibition. Ideal for a family outing with lots of "aha experiences".
The check-in is possible on the day of arrival from 15.00 o'clock. Please check in at the campsite info (opening hours until 5:30 p.m., if you arrive later please check in the next day). You open the door by entering the six-digit numerical code that you have received from us in advance by e-mail.
Check-out is possible on the day of departure until 11.00 a.m. at the latest. Before you leave, please dispose of your trash in the trash cans seen before at the campground main house and if possible clear table & chairs into the lodge. Then just close the door (does not need to be locked) and have a good trip home.
As electricity is limited on the campsite, we ask you to use the heating only on the lowest setting. This way the lodge will be sufficiently heated and you will avoid a power outage. Power outages may occur on rare occasions. Here is a quick self-help guide: First check if the fuse of your lodge has blown. There are two fuse switches on the top left above the bed. Both switches must face the window. If not, one fuse has blown and you can flip the switch again without risk.
If the power still doesn't work, it is due to the fuse at the power distributor. Please consult the janitor of the campsite:
We use a smart lock from Nuki. The lock can be opened by numerical code (input via the keypad to the left of the door) or key. If you have any problems, you can always get a spare key at our reception or call +49 159 01340863.
HOOKING THE DOOR WITH ROPE
With the rope at the bottom right of your lodge you can hook the door handle so that the wind does not slam the door permanently.
We have set up hammocks at camp for community use. Relax and unwind! You don't need to set your alarm early in the morning to cover the hammocks with your towel.
TERRACE WITH CHAIR AND TABLE
At the North Sea it can be very stormy at times. Because of the strong wind and because the campsite is only partially guarded, we ask you to put folding table and chair under the right bed, if possible in the evening and after checkout to the lodge. Thank you very much!
We have a few beach chairs for community use.
There is a reception/kiosk where you can check in and out and get snacks, drinks, sand toys, wading socks and souvenirs. Breakfast is available for 14,50 Euro (breakfast basket).
Our outdoor kitchen is equipped with the most important things. You will find a microwave, a cooktop, a grill, a mini-oven and a basic set of dishes. As the kitchen is for communal use, we ask you to be considerate of other guests and to respect the following rules:
- Coordinate with other guests
- For washing up you can use the washing up facilities of the campsite.
- Please put the dishes back in the kitchen after use and do not "hoard" them in the lodge, so that other guests can use them as well.
- If something is broken, please give us a short info to email@example.com
- Where food is found in nature, there are creatures (especially seagulls, wild rabbits) that like to steal some of it. Please be careful not to leave food in the open or drop it on the ground.
Harlesiel is located in the north of Carolinensiel, a district of the East Frisian town of Wittmund in Lower Saxony. The camping site is located directly next to the marina.
